Driving for a Cause: Midland Mercedes-Benz Club Helps Make Daffodil Day a Success

The Midland Mercedes-Benz Club was proud to take part in the Waikato Vintage Car Club's annual Daffodil Day Rally on 23 August, helping raise much-needed funds for the Cancer Society while enjoying a fantastic day of motoring through the Waikato countryside.

Daffodil Day is a nationwide initiative of the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand, combining a passion for classic vehicles with an important fundraising effort for the Cancer Society. This year, the Waikato branch organised five hub rallies, all converging at the club's impressive Cambridge clubrooms.

Our members joined the Matamata hub, gathering at the RSA before setting off on the day's run. While the RSA unfortunately forgot to open its doors for participants, the fine weather more than made up for the minor hiccup, and spirits remained high as drivers prepared for the journey ahead.

The turnout exceeded expectations, with approximately 60 vehicles departing from Matamata and travelling scenic back-country roads en route to Cambridge. Participants received rally instructions, lucky numbers for prize draws, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the camaraderie that makes these events so special.

Upon arrival in Cambridge, participants were able to explore the Waikato Vintage Car Club's excellent facilities before enjoying the festivities and reflecting on a successful day.

Most importantly, the event achieved a remarkable fundraising result. The Waikato branch raised an impressive $9,103 for the Cancer Society, exceeding last year's total. Even more notably, the Matamata hub alone contributed more than $1,600, making it the most successful of the five rally hubs.

As all funds raised remain in the Waikato region to support local Cancer Society services, every participant played a direct role in helping people affected by cancer in our community.

A sincere thank you goes to all Midland Mercedes-Benz Club members who attended and supported the event. Your enthusiasm, generous participation, and strong turnout helped make the day such a success. You should all give yourselves a well-deserved pat on the back.
